The Neighborhood Envy

What's Important When Hiring A Lawn Care Company!

There are lots of lawn care service providers in the North Shore area but, which one is right for you? Here are a few things to consider when searching for a lawn care company this season.

LOCALITY

Locally owned businesses are usually going to provide you with better service than say, the big national guy. The owner and staff probably live in your area too and may even know people in your circle. With that comes a sense of trust since people who work for locally owned businesses generally interact with customers outside of work, at times.

Sure, supporting a locally owned business also makes you feel good but the other great benefit is that a local company knows what lawns need in your neighborhood to thrive. The big national guys use one-program-fits-all approach so someone here in Massachusetts gets the same products and treatments as say, someone in Texas with a completely different soil makeup.

COMMUNICATION

Every company should communicate well, especially when it comes to customer service. We all expect people to answer or respond promptly and have a pleasant demeanor, that's a given. But communication in this sense means, when you contact the company to find out about their services, do they communicate things clearly or does it feel like you're getting run in circles.

Companies that have nothing to hide don't try to hide anything! So ask questions. Ask how many times they come out. Ask how you are billed. Ask how long they've been in business. Clear, up front answers (even if the answer isn't what you were hoping for) are a good sign that the business you're contacting is reputable. Sure you can look at the BBB or other online consumer review services, but you have to keep in mind that the only time a consumer contacts them is to complain and in many cases, the complaint may not actually be the company's fault.

PRICING

Obviously, price is a big consideration especially with the costs of all goods and services rising these days. But price should not be the only factor. Remember the adage, you get what you pay for. So getting the "cheapest" price out there may mean you are disappointed with the products, service, or results later in the season.

Not all products and spread rates are the same so some companies that are simply priced based may not be providing what your lawn needs to be healthy, or provide you the service you would hope for. So avoid companies that will simply price match someone else's price as they may just cut corners to get their price down to earn your business. Reputable companies who what to perform a good service, know what the cost of providing that service is and will not fluctuate much just to earn yours.
